FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Assessment

A Warm Welcome to Foundations®

At our Foundations® Residential Family Assessment Centres, we understand that coming into an assessment can feel overwhelming.

That’s why from the moment families arrive, our focus is on making them feel comfortable, safe and supported. Every family is unique, so every care plan is tailored to reflect their individual circumstances, needs, and strengths.

We provide a calm, nurturing environment where parents and children can settle and feel secure. Our role is to give families the space and support to demonstrate their parenting, while offering guidance that can help them grow in confidence and develop new skills.

Supportive care and family wellbeing

Who We Help

We work with families at different stages and with a wide range of needs.

Family support and wellbeing

This includes

  • Parents and expectant mothers (16+) with babies and children aged 0–10.

Parents who may be managing challenges such as

  • Learning or communication difficulties
  • Emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • Experiences of domestic abuse
  • Mental health needs
  • Physical disabilities
  • Substance misuse

Children who may have

  • Developmental, emotional, or behavioural needs
  • Learning or communication difficulties
  • Physical disabilities

Every referral is risk assessed in partnership with the Local Authority and wider multi-disciplinary team. We also consider planned moves, where parents arrive before their child, so they can settle and build positive relationships with our team.

How We Work With Families

  • Individual planning before arrival – we carefully review each referral to make sure the placement is the right fit for the family and for other residents. Where another approach, such as fostering or community-based support, may be more suitable, we’ll be open and honest about that.
  • Tailored support – we adapt our approach for young parents, families with learning or communication needs, and those who may need extra support with language or understanding.
  • Fair and transparent assessments – families receive regular updates, and reports are written clearly so that parents understand what’s happening every step of the way.

All of our reports go through a robust quality assurance process. They are carefully reviewed to ensure they include everything a Local Authority or court would need to make an informed decision. Where appropriate, we also draw on the expertise of family law specialists to ensure our assessments are court-ready and stand up to scrutiny.

Our Goal for Every Family

Our desired outcome is the same: to keep families together wherever it is safe to do so.

Alongside the assessment, we help parents prepare for the future – thinking about where they will move on to, what support they may benefit from, and practical skills such as budgeting and planning ahead.

If you would like more information about our referral process, to arrange a visit, or to discuss a placement, please follow our referral process.
